Happy Father's Day!

I was a Father's Day failure this year.  With all the chaos of getting Ben picked up from his trip to California, getting ready to go out of town, trying to be prepared for Abby's 13th birthday, softball practices and games, lessons...I failed to prepare for Father's Day.  There really aren't any good excuses and I felt terrible all day long for not having a plan and gifts.

I know...Father's Day isn't about big plans and gifts, but I didn't do anything.  No breakfast in bed.  No gifts.  Nothing.

Jon didn't really care.  He isn't into those kinds of things anyway.  All he wanted was a relaxing day with his family.  I could do that!

Lunch (dinner) was a cinch!  We ended up having Abby's birthday dinner that we didn't have the day before.  Jon is always game for Mexican!  You can't go wrong with carnitas!  They are our favorite!!

While we were sitting at the table, I was (again) apologizing for not being prepared for Father's Day, and I reminded Luke that he had made a gift for Daddy.  He jumped out of his chair and ran.  I tried to stop him, telling him that I had his gift.  He kept telling me, "Hang on!"  Lo and behold, he ran back into the kitchen with a card.  Since Luke was attending Parent's Day Out at school, his amazing teacher made Father's Day gifts and cards with the kids.  Luke was so happy and excited to give his gift!

The weather was gorgeous, so Jon thought it would be fun to go to the lake.  Perfect!

Abby had a plan. (:

Abby couldn't wait to get to the sand and write her Father's Day message.  I love it!

Once we left the lake (due to the fact that it looked like it was going to rain.) we took the scenic route home.  The kids didn't love it, but I love Oklahoma.   The scenery here is just gorgeous!

This piece of scenery...not so gorgeous!  Cool, but not cool at all!  We, actually,  saw TWO of these buggers while we were driving!  YIKES!  I am not a fan!

All in all, I think Jon had a nice Father's Day.  I still feel terrible that I wasn't prepared, but I reassured him that just because I didn't have anything special planned didn't mean that I loved him any less.  I love him very, very much and am thankful for the father that he is to our children!

Happy Father's Day, Jon!  You are a great dad!  I am so thankful for you and for all that you do for our family!  I love you!!!

Lake Time!

We are so happy that the heat has broke and we can spend time outside again! We opted to head to the lake on Sunday evening. I was a little bit apprehensive about the water temperature. Last time we were there, the water was HOT! This time it was great! It was GORGEOUS evening!!

Ben and Abby each brought a friend along.

5th of July

We talked about going to the lake on the 4th, we just didn't make it. I really didn't want to brave the holiday crowd and we were having a lazy day and we never got the gumption to get ready for a day at the lake. (Plus, it's always a struggle to want to put on a bathing suit...) We decided that we would wait and go the next day when it wasn't quite as busy. I'm really glad we waited because we ended up, basically, having the beach to ourselves!

The craziest thing about the beach is that the water was literally HOT! The water temperature had to be in the 90-95 degree range! It was insane! We thought it would be nice and refreshing to go to the lake and cool off from the miserable triple digit temperatures we have been enduring. It was anything but refreshing! We still had fun playing for a little while.

Luke was wiped out! He came home from the lake and took a bath and fell asleep on his daddy while he was drying off!

HA! Maybe we should go to the lake more often! :)

A Day At The Lake

I grew up at the beach, but living in Landlocked, USA there aren't a ton of beaches to go to. There are a few, however, and it is still just as fun to go now as it was when I was a kid! This past weekend we headed out to the lake with some friends and had a great time!

Our friend, Matt, has a boat which we all enjoyed! He let the boys jump off and swim to shore. They LOVED it!!
Luke is very fond of Mr. Matt!!
Luke even got to drive the boat! (Not here, but he really did get to drive when we went out for a ride.)
Like Jon's floaties? :)
I love that Ben found it fun to dig in the sand! There are so many things he thinks he's too big for these days...
Big Luke and Little Luke enjoyed it too!
For a long time Luke preferred to play in the sand than to get in the water.
The kids did some shore fishing before heading out on the boat for more fishing.
Luke and I ate lunch while the big kids were out on the boat fishing. YUM! (I don't think little boys get much cuter than this one! Look at him chillin'!)
Abby was the only one that caught a fish and she was quite proud! But she still wouldn't touch it! No way!!
Luke finally decided that the water was the place to be!
And that it was fun to throw the wet sand...
Best buds!
The kiddos! They had such a great time at the beach!
While at the lake, Ben jumped off of the boat into about 2 feet of water. His foot hurt so bad that he couldn't walk. Jon ended up having to carry him to the van. Once we got home we iced Ben's foot and gave him some meds.
I really wanted to take Ben to the doctor just to make sure everything was ok, but Jon thought everything was fine and that with some time Ben would feel better. In the meantime, Ben couldn't put any weight on his foot and would crawl through the house! I decided that since he was to go back up to Hutch with Luke on Sunday that I would take him to the doctor for some peace of mind. (He would be gone for 10 days!!) The doctor didn't think there was a fracture, but sent us for x-rays just to be safe. For some reason it took two days to get the results of the x-rays! (Don't get me started on Bartlesville medical crap!) The results showed a fracture in Ben's foot. GREAT! Ben's in Hutch and there's really nothing I could do! After several phone calls with the doctor here, phone calls with Luke's mom and speaking to our previous pediatrician's nurse, Ben was able to get put into a protective shoe. (Kind of like a boot, just shorter.) It was totally crazy and chaotic!! Hopefully Ben is on the road to recovery now! I feel like a horrible mother that I sent my son away with a broken foot and that I there was nothing I could do! Mother of the Year, I know!! So...my advice to you: Don't jump out of boats in shallow water! And if you suspect something might be wrong, act on it! Don't wait! There's something to be said for 'mother's intuition'!

I still say it was a great day at the lake!!
