Happy Father's Day!

I was a Father's Day failure this year.  With all the chaos of getting Ben picked up from his trip to California, getting ready to go out of town, trying to be prepared for Abby's 13th birthday, softball practices and games, lessons...I failed to prepare for Father's Day.  There really aren't any good excuses and I felt terrible all day long for not having a plan and gifts.

I know...Father's Day isn't about big plans and gifts, but I didn't do anything.  No breakfast in bed.  No gifts.  Nothing.

Jon didn't really care.  He isn't into those kinds of things anyway.  All he wanted was a relaxing day with his family.  I could do that!

Lunch (dinner) was a cinch!  We ended up having Abby's birthday dinner that we didn't have the day before.  Jon is always game for Mexican!  You can't go wrong with carnitas!  They are our favorite!!

While we were sitting at the table, I was (again) apologizing for not being prepared for Father's Day, and I reminded Luke that he had made a gift for Daddy.  He jumped out of his chair and ran.  I tried to stop him, telling him that I had his gift.  He kept telling me, "Hang on!"  Lo and behold, he ran back into the kitchen with a card.  Since Luke was attending Parent's Day Out at school, his amazing teacher made Father's Day gifts and cards with the kids.  Luke was so happy and excited to give his gift!

The weather was gorgeous, so Jon thought it would be fun to go to the lake.  Perfect!

Abby had a plan. (:

Abby couldn't wait to get to the sand and write her Father's Day message.  I love it!

Once we left the lake (due to the fact that it looked like it was going to rain.) we took the scenic route home.  The kids didn't love it, but I love Oklahoma.   The scenery here is just gorgeous!

This piece of scenery...not so gorgeous!  Cool, but not cool at all!  We, actually,  saw TWO of these buggers while we were driving!  YIKES!  I am not a fan!

All in all, I think Jon had a nice Father's Day.  I still feel terrible that I wasn't prepared, but I reassured him that just because I didn't have anything special planned didn't mean that I loved him any less.  I love him very, very much and am thankful for the father that he is to our children!

Happy Father's Day, Jon!  You are a great dad!  I am so thankful for you and for all that you do for our family!  I love you!!!

Happy Father's Day

When I asked Jon what he would like to do for Father's Day, he said that he would like to grill hamburgers and hang out outside all day.  He didn't want to have any kind of plans.  He just wanted to spend the day outside with the fam.  Sooo...that's exactly what we did.  There weren't very many pictures taken, but there were some cute ones!

Of course, the day started out with a few little presents!
(Check out the cute bow!  Abby made her own bow for her present.  Jon thought it was the perfect accessory for the morning!)

Happy Father's Day, Jon!  Thank you for being such a great father to our children.  I appreciate the example you are setting for them as such a hard working dad!  I know that our kiddos are at difficult ages, but hang in there, it will get better!  (I have to tell myself that too!)  I love you and appreciate everything you do for our family!

Happy Father's Day!!

Father's Day was more of a weekend long event at our house! It was SUPER fun! We had talked about going camping for the weekend, but it was just so hot that I really wasn't interested. (I would go if that's what Jon wanted to do, but he decided on something else! Darn!)

Jon thought it would be fun to go to Tulsa for a Drillers game. I loved that idea! But first we had to have dinner at our favorite place, Qdoba!
I had received an email with acoupon for buy one meal, get one free! It doesn't get a whole lot better than that!

We opted to go to the baseball game on Saturday versus Sunday thinking that Sunday might be crazy. It was great! It wasn't very crowded at all!
Abby enjoyed hanging out watching the players in the bullpen.

Ben really didn't want to be at the game and had a bit of an attitude the whole time. Jon and I were a bit unhappy with him.

Luke enjoyed every minute of being at the game! He had quite a bit of fun cooling himself down with a water bottle that we got while we were there! I should have tried that! It was HOT!! There was a great little playground very close to where we were sitting, so we took advantage of that a time or two.

Jon and his kiddos!

Of course, on Father's Day morning, we (well, the kids) showered Jon with a few gifts!

What Jon really wanted for Father's Day was to hang out outside, play, hang out and grill. That's exactly what we did! It was a great day!
Jon is a GREAT dad! He is willing to do anything with or for the kids! He will paint toenails or let his be painted! He changed diapers without any complaints! He drives kids where they need to be, sits at games, cleans up puke...ANYTHING! He is a GREAT dad! Ben, Abby and Luke have blessed with an amazing dad and I have been blessed with a great dad for my kiddos!

Happy Father's Day!

We had a pretty uneventful Father's Day here, which is exactly what Jon asked for. He does so much for our family, how could I not give him that?! I have to say, Jon is one terrific dad! When I hear about other dad's and what they do/don't do, I realize that I am one blessed woman and my kids are so blessed to have a dad that is so involved and will do anything! He changes diapers, helps with homework, gives baths, cleans bathrooms (or whatever room needs cleaned, if asked, of course!), paints nails, you name it, he'll do it! He's definitely not one of those dads that says, "I don't do that!" He does it ALL!!

He requested that we not spend any money on gifts, but it's really hard not to spend any. We spent just a little, and I think he was ok with that.

He had originally requested that we spend the day hanging out outside doing nothing, but it was SO hot that we did our 'nothing' inside. Lazy, lazy day!

His dinner request was steak with baked potatoes and corn on the cob. (I had to throw in some green beans for some color!) For dessert he wanted angel food cake with pudding and cool whip. This is what I came up with. YUM!
On Mother's Day, Jon asked the Ben and Abby some questions about me, so I thought I would take those same questions and turn them on him. Here's what they had to say about their dad...

What is your favorite thing about Dad?

Ben: "That he's a pilot"
(I find this quite comical seeing as though Ben refuses to fly with him!)

Abby: "He helped me with homework and he Rocks!"

What is your favorite memory with Dad?

Ben: "My favorite memory with Dad is when we got
Papa Murphey's chicken and sausage pizza and watched movies."

Abby: "When we went camping at Camp Wah-Sha-She. When we went fishing and boating, those were my favorite parts."

What do you wish Dad would do differently?

Ben: "I wish Dad would stay home more often."

Abby: "Nothing."

On a scale of 1-10 (1-not good, 10-great) how do you feel about your relationship with Dad?

Ben: "11 1/2"

Abby: "10!!"

See, even the kids think he's great! HE IS!!! I am so thankful that the Lord has blessed me with such a GREAT dad for my kiddos!!
